Howard County had a special time sharing diverse cultures and traditions on the 25th with a Lunar New Year Celebration at Columbia Mall. The event was co-hosted by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, the Howard County Asian Pacific American (AAPI) Advisory Council, and the Howard County Office of Human Rights and Equity, and celebrated Lunar New Year with AAPI residents as they ushered in the Year of the Snake.

In his congratulatory remarks, County Mayor Calvin Ball said, “Seollal is a time to celebrate our traditions and culture, and to reflect on the diversity of Howard County through vibrant performances and diverse heritage, which is our greatest strength.” He added, “Asian Pacific Islanders make up one in five people in Howard County, and they play a pivotal role in the growth and prosperity of our community.” He continued, “True diversity is not simply expressed in numbers, but is completed when everyone feels a sense of belonging,” emphasizing the importance of events like Seollal. He also expressed gratitude to the AAPI Advisory Committee for their dedication to the successful hosting of the event, and added, “I hope that every family will be filled with happiness and prosperity in the Year of the Snake.”
